THE DIPLOMATIQUE™ POWER INDEX

Across aisles. Across oceans. Mapping where power actually resides.

Power has an official structure. Presidents and prime ministers. Cabinets and ministries. Legislatures, courts, institutions and chains of command.

Then there is the power map.

The Diplomatique™ Power Index is our continuing examination of the people, relationships and institutions that shape decisions — those who hold formal authority, those who exercise influence, and those who connect one centre of power to another.

We begin in Washington with the 47th Administration of the United States. Following the November 2026 midterm elections, we will add an examination of the emerging Democratic power structure — looking beyond formal party machinery to Congress, governors, policy networks, funders, strategists and the personalities helping to shape the next political cycle.

From there, the Index will travel across aisles and oceans.

Future Power Indexes will examine the United Kingdom and Europe; the kingdoms and emirates of the Middle East; China and Russia; Southeast Asia; and other centres where decisions carry consequences beyond national borders.

We will follow allies, competitors and adversaries. We will watch governments change and political tides turn. And we will revisit our maps as influence moves from one person, institution or political tradition to another.

A LIVING MAP. AN ACTIVE ARCHIVE.

The Power Index is not conceived as a succession of disposable lists.

Each new map will become part of a growing Diplomatique™ intelligence library — allowing Intelligence subscribers not only to understand who matters now, but to return to earlier editions and trace how power, access and influence have changed over time.

Today's adviser may become tomorrow's minister.

Today's opposition may become tomorrow's government.

Today's rising figure may disappear from the map altogether.

That movement is part of the story.

The Diplomatique™ Power Index records it.
